The African Development Partnership, together with Business Leadership South African and the World Bank, is an initiative by African youth that attempts to bridge the divide between today's leaders and the youth in the area of sustainability by creating an environment for engagement between the two generations. The initiative is a platform for outstanding youth to further excel and express their ideas which will be incorporated into the framework of youth policy.
The African Development Partnership is based on the premises that in order to influence policy and therefore practice, collective action is greater than the sum of individual and isolated actions taken by government, tertiary institutions, civil society and business. The African Development partnership intends to build leadership capacity in these sectors. The result of this will be to create an environment of confidence and responsible social and economic action for tomorrow's leaders and policy makers.
The inaugural African Development Partnership will focus on sustainable development with the overall theme being, "Creating an Environment for Sustainable Development". This will be an attempt to find ways in which the youth can engage as leaders in sustainability-oriented action on focused themes.
The conference will take place on Wednesday, 27th of February 2008 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
